A pocket square (pocket square) is a very stylish men's accessory. It is an important, but optional wardrobe element that emphasizes the gentleman's sense of style and complements his image wonderfully. Let's consider what such a scarf is, how to choose it and use it correctly.

Peculiarities

If you often have to wear tailored suits, you should think about such an accessory as a pocket square. With its help, you can make your image more elegant even without a tie. The main thing is to know with which wardrobe items to combine a scarf-pasha, and how to fold it correctly.

Earlier in the life of men, the role of headscarves was only functional. An accessory such as a pocket square was made popular in the 20th century by the Prince of Wales. This wardrobe item embodies taste, style and sophistication.

Tones and patterns

The most popular are classic white pocket squares because they go well with almost anything. An alternative option is a product with a colored line or a simple geometric pattern, such accessories are also traditional. You can take a chance with brighter pocket squares, but always consider the appropriateness of such an accessory and other wardrobe items.

If you are going to buy your first shawl, it is better to opt for a solid color accessory. This option is the simplest: you will not need to think about whether this detail is combined with other elements of the wardrobe.

If you cannot or do not want to purchase a blue or white accessory (the most versatile options that are almost impossible to go wrong with), you should choose another muted color: pink, gray.

Quite dark colors are also possible, but the black scarf is not very popular, since it looks rather gloomy. Perhaps, a monochromatic product still cannot be called universal: in some cases, such options look very boring.

It is better to "dilute" the monotony with some bright accent: for example, a line of a different color. It is not recommended to combine light blue shirts with plain pashas of the same shades.

It is worth noting that scarves are considered universal. with contrasting edges. They can be folded so that they look completely solid, or they can be folded differently to expose contrasting edges.

Choosing a model with stripes, cells, you need to exercise the utmost care. In no case should the pattern be the same as on the tie, otherwise the look will turn out to be very stupid and unoriginal. Geometric patterns look best on accessories made of cotton, linen, rather than silk and wool. You should not choose very bright patterns, it is better to give preference to dark or simply desaturated shades.

Striped accessories should not be combined with similar shirts.

Polka dot scarves, with dots it is better not to choose at all, because such a pattern looks better on ties. Of course, there are exceptions, but they are very rare. Polka dots are more suitable for an informal look, and even then - not for everyone.

No need to be afraid silk and wool shawls with colored patterns large size, such products can be called quite versatile. The ornament can be fancy, unusual. The main thing is to combine such accessories with other things as carefully as possible. More versatile colors are brown, bluish, red; try to avoid frivolous pink, light green shades.

Fabrics

You can choose any material for a breastpiece, as long as it is rather thin. If the fabric is too thick, it is inconvenient to fold the scarf and put it in a pocket. If it does, the pocket bulges out in an ugly way, which greatly spoils the whole image. Materials such as cotton, silk, wool and linen are commonly used to create men's pocket squares.

A silk, satin shawl is the most luxurious option. A satin shawl always looks very beautiful. In addition, such products are also versatile, because they are great for wearing all year round. Silk accessories allow you to experiment with different folds.

Wool and cashmere scarves they go well with tweed and flannel things, but do not forget that such materials are better suited for use in winter.

Cotton products are more versatile and can be worn at any time of the year.

How to fold?

There are several ways to fold pocket squares. When choosing a suitable option, you should focus on the image as a whole.

Classic

The classic version is also called the presidential one. This is one of the simplest folding options. Usually it is used under classic dark ties, very well suited for a strict dress code. The material most often used is linen or silk.

Instructions:

  • place the product on any surface, turn it towards you with the smooth side;
  • bend it in half;
  • then the bottom corner of the product will need to be tucked, leaving a little space on top - a couple of centimeters (the exact distance will depend on how deep your pocket is);
  • place the accessory in your pocket and smooth it out so that there are no creases - the product should not hang out of the pocket.

With one corner

This method is suitable for almost any look, it is also very popular. It is recommended to choose not a white accessory for it, but a colored one.

Instructions:

  • place the accessory on a table or other flat surface;
  • bend the product in half;
  • then you will need to bend the left edge, slightly stepping over the center;
  • repeat the same on the opposite side;
  • put the accessory in your pocket.

Two corners at the top

This way of folding will make the image more informal, and also make you stand out from others. You can take any check scarf. The product with "monograms" and patterns will look great. Such an accessory fits the official dress code, but at the same time looks very unusual.

Instructions:

  • place the pocket square on the table with an angle towards you;
  • to the upper corner you will need to pull the lower one - put the product so that you get "hills" or two corners;
  • slightly stepping over the center, bend the left edge;
  • do the same on the other side;
  • Place the accessory in your pocket, gently straightening its visible edges.

Crown

This option is also referred to as "three corners up". It works well for a colored item or an accessory with patterns.

Instructions:

  • position the scarf by turning it towards you at an angle;
  • pull the bottom to the upper corner, as in the previous method;
  • pull up the edge on the left;
  • fold the right corner, which remains unbent, at 90 degrees, some efforts cannot be dispensed with, otherwise the product may unfold to its original state;
  • put the accessory in your pocket.

Informal way

      This folding method is also called "Pyshka". It is appropriate for more informal looks: for example, patterned, plaid shirts. This is not a suitable option for classic suits, festive looks.

      Instructions:

      • place the product on the table;
      • then in the center it will need to be "pinched" and pulled upward, pull out the accessory;
      • turn the scarf upside down;
      • place the accessory in your jacket pocket and fold the ends that will stick out a lot - it will turn out unevenly, but that's the idea.
