How to fold a shirt so it doesn't wrinkle?
When we put a men's shirt in a suitcase or in a bag on the road, the main task is to make it presentable upon arrival. There are several options for how to fold your shirt so it doesn't wrinkle, and each one is designed for a specific type of luggage: suitcase, backpack, or travel bag. There is also a versatile method that can be used when cleaning out a seasonal wardrobe.
People who have a shirt in a standard set of clothes know perfectly well how to wash and iron it, how to prepare it for everyday wear in advance. The question of how to fold the shirt so that it does not wrinkle arises when packing for the trip. A freshly ironed piece of clothing will inevitably crumple if you do not pay enough attention to the method of transportation. Knowing the little secrets, you can extract an important attribute of a man's wardrobe that is quite wearable from your hand luggage.
Home storage
In modern realities, not everyone has the necessary meters of personal space. Lack of storage space for clothes can be found in a shared matrimonial bedroom, in a hotel room, in a dorm room.
It is usually recommended to hang shirts on special trempels (devices for hanging clothes - made of plastic, wood or metal) - and preferably no more than 1-2 for each. But if there is not enough space for hanging freshly ironed things, they are put on the shelves.
In this case, it is not enough to know how to fold a shirt so as not to wrinkle - Correct placement on the shelf also matters:
- there should not be any heavier items in the stack: sweaters, jumpers or sweatshirts;
- the best option - when each shirt lies separately, but you can put one on top of the other (no more than 3-4 pieces);
- products with short sleeves made of thin fabric in the off-season are placed on top, and denser ones with long sleeves - at the bottom;
- so that it does not fall over, the item of clothing is folded with collars in different directions: the lower collar - to the wall, the second in a row - to the door, also with the second pair;
- the collar is dense and soft, the one in which there is a sealing insert is less deformed, so such things are placed from below, and soft ones - from above;
- it is useless to fold ironed things - time will be spent on this, but the appearance will still not become more aesthetically pleasing;
- if there is an unpacked item (in the factory packaging, with a cardboard box and a plastic spacer), it can be stored in any place where it does not bear the weight of the side, otherwise, despite the spacer, the collar, buttoned up, will inevitably take an irregular shape, and it will be difficult to smooth it out.
To put the already washed and ironed items on the shelves of the wardrobe, you need to let the shirt hang a little, especially if a steamer was used during ironing. For a new one (just unpacked), you need to smooth out the sleeve and chest folds remaining from the dense packaging. A men's shirt made of natural fabric wrinkles very quickly, so it is not recommended to hang one on top of the other before folding.
As for knitted items, after unpacking they are also advised to iron them before use, otherwise traces of creases may remain after washing.
Some time after ironing (during this period, the thing hangs on a trempel or, in extreme cases, on the shoulders, on the back of a chair) the process is started by spreading the textile product on a flat, clean surface (ideally on a table):
- having laid the shirt on the back, carefully flatten it with your hands and fasten it with all the buttons (the cuffs are not fastened);
- turning it upside down, on the right and left sides, fold it over a third of the main canvas, carefully laying the sleeve along the conditional lateral line;
- as a result, a primitive rectangle should form, due to which the collar peeps out a little in the upper part;
- it is folded along a horizontal line three times: first the hem - to the middle of the back, then again with the formed fold to the back;
- to make it easier for yourself, you can use a cardboard box or an A4 paper sheet, they will tell you how many centimeters to fold, and additionally prevent deformation;
- for better safety, you can insert a plastic spacer taken from the package into the collar, if it is not there, sometimes a folded thin scarf or an oblong piece of fabric is used.
The short sleeve shirt has a little less problems: a small rectangle is folded with a rhombus - they are simply folded inward and smoothed with hands so that wrinkles and folds do not form. All other manipulations are done in the same way as with the short one. In this way, it is convenient to minimize the volume of sweaters and pullovers, polos, sweatshirts, T-shirts.
The main thing is that things should be categorized so that a thick-knit sweater and a shirt made of thin natural fabric are not in the same pile. It can be placed in a special storage bag (cellophane or on a snake) if things are removed due to the onset of a warm or cold season.
Travel fees
This process needs to be given a little more attention. On a business trip, such a piece of clothing is taken by people who sometimes have to go directly to their destination from an airplane or train. It is a rumpled shirt and an un-ironed tie that gives a man in a suit a sloppy look. If it is outerwear (in the warm season), problems with appearance become even more obvious to others.
Suitcase
Packing for the trip is always accompanied by packing things into bags convenient for transportation. Business-style people prefer to put their clothes in a suitcase. They have several options for folding the shirt: according to the method already described, with additional means of preservation in its original form (with a dense plastic collar or a soft roller, cardboard or thick paper), in a special bag. In any of the proposed options, there is room for creativity, and creative people solve the problem of transportation by improvised or special means:
- the cardboard is cut out of the packaging, left after purchase;
- there are shirts in special boxes, the so-called gift boxes, they can also be used as a case for transportation;
- you can take an ordinary magazine, and put socks, underwear, T-shirt in the collar;
- there is a mechanical folder that is sold in online stores, or special folders made of hard plastic.
In any case, a shirt is an item that is placed on top of all other clothes, and if the suitcase is with solid walls, then the traveler will not have any problems.
As a last resort, you can use the rolling method usually used for a sports bag or backpack with the necessary things.
Backpack or travel bag
People who prefer a gym bag or backpack usually wear sweaters and T-shirts. However, sometimes shirts are also folded there, if we are talking about a short trip, and it is inconvenient to carry a bulky suitcase with you. Recently, the backpack has become an integral part of youth fashion, and this is justified - it is placed behind the back, leaving your hands free.
There are several options for this case.
- Traditional way of styling - placing a stack of shirts and T-shirts packed with accessories on top of everything else.
- Roller - the shirt is folded in half, with a crease in the center, the sleeves, in the same way as in the traditional version, are placed at the back, parallel to the seam.Starting from the hem, it rolls into a roll, compact, does not take up much space.
- Special package, which is in the assortment of any virtual store that sells men's clothes.
Recommendations
Practical advice for those who have such items - an indispensable part of the wardrobe: you need to take textiles with the addition of synthetics (20 or 25% polyester) on the road. They can be smoothed out by simply hanging them in the bathroom while you shower and will straighten with the steam. In addition, things with the addition of synthetic fibers have the ability to crease resistance, while natural fabrics (pure cotton or linen) may look wrinkled immediately after the ironing process.
Any precautions can be leveled by unforeseen movements in the luggage compartment of the aircraft: if the suitcase is stacked upside down, fell from the designated place or ended up at the bottom of the stack, and its walls are not dense enough.
