Short men's socks: how to choose and what to wear with?
Socks are an invariable attribute of absolutely every men's wardrobe. They are worn every day and sometimes they are not taken off until the evening - socks provide our feet with comfort at home and in the office, while walking or jogging. We are used to not attaching too much importance to this small detail, however, what socks a person is wearing can tell about his sense of style, manners and ability to take care of himself.
Correctly selected socks determine not only the comfort of the feet, but also the external aesthetics.
To emphasize the attractiveness of a particular shoe model and to provide the foot with maximum comfort, there are several types of socks that vary in length... One of them is short socks. How are they correctly called and what kind of shoes are they intended for? We will analyze this issue in detail in our article.
What are cropped socks called?
Short men's socks are designed for summer and demi-season low-rise shoes. They do not have a common name, however, sellers often call them "sports". Some people prefer to call them simply short or cropped, but sports, as a rule, are precisely those models that do not cover the ankle.
Among men's socks, you can find both knee-highs and those that reach almost to the middle of the lower leg, so short is a very extensible concept. A shortened model is often understood as the one that covers the ankle, but does not reach 1/3 of the lower leg.
Sometimes sports are models with logos of famous sports brands, as well as made of special materials, while they will not necessarily be shortened. So if you are looking for an ankle-length model, tell the salesperson that you want sports cropped socks. Also, sports models include such models that do not even cover the raises of the feet. These are very short socks, on the leg they look like female headers, but they are made of a different material. They are often called "male followers". Used with closed shoes in summer.
Composition and quality
Low-rise men's socks need to be elastic and breathable, so they are always made from blended fabrics that combine these qualities. The most economical models, as a rule, have the following composition: 98% polyester, 2% elastane. They stretch well and are less prone to wear, however, the feet in them can sweat, since these materials do not allow air to pass through very well.
Models of the middle price segment often have about 70% cotton, about 27-28% polyamide and 2-3% elastane. Cotton allows the foot to breathe, polyamide makes the fabric more resistant to wear and tear, and elastane makes the material stretch. Thus, sports socks are a comfortable and relatively durable option. Also, models of the middle price category can have lycra instead of elastane in the composition - this material, like elastane, makes them elastic, but at the same time it is softer and more pleasant to the touch. They will contain a little more cotton and lycra, but less polyamide - about 15%.
Among the expensive models, there are socks with the following composition: 83% cotton, 16% nylon, 1% elastane. Here the place of polyamide is taken by nylon - a material with increased wear resistance, withstands multiple washes, pleasant to the touch and has elasticity. Such models dry quickly after washing and are great for sports training - the fabric is hygroscopic, does not cause allergies, does not get wet from excess sweat, taking it out.
Recently, manufacturers have started to use bamboo fiber instead of cotton. This innovative material is also hygroscopic and pleasant to the touch, but outperforms cotton in durability. In addition, bamboo has antibacterial properties, which helps to minimize the unpleasant odor that occurs when wearing shoes for a long time. Thanks to 100% environmental friendliness, bamboo models are completely hypoallergenic and perfect for people with sensitive skin.
Italian men's socks are also popular among consumers. Their peculiarity is that they often consist of 100% special mercerized cotton that grows in Egypt. Italian textile companies make filoscozia fabric from it. Its fibers are thinner, which provides high strength, however, the price for models made of this material is much higher. The combination of these parameters provides maximum comfort: the skin breathes, the sock itself is practically not felt on the foot, while the Italian socks are resistant to wear and tear.
How to choose and what to wear?
When choosing, it is important to rely on what kind of shoes you are going to use the socks with and how long you will spend in them. So, with moccasins it is best to wear underfoot shoes for men. They will be completely invisible, but the foot will feel comfortable. When choosing, pay attention to the models with lycra in the composition - this will save you from calluses and provide maximum convenience.
Lowered models that cover the insteps are great with loafers, sneakers, trainers and other sports shoes with a low rise. You may not focus on the composition if you are not going to actively play sports and spend less than 4 hours in shoes. For increased loads, models with nylon, cotton, bamboo, polyamide and elastane are suitable.
If the image is official, then in combination with a black suit and black shoes, it is more appropriate to wear completely black socks without inscriptions and logos. White models are suitable for a tennis court. In all other cases, the color of the socks will depend on the color of the shoes: it can be exactly the same shade or lighter by 1-2 tones, but in no case darker. If trousers are lighter than shoes, you can choose socks based on their color - in this case, they can be 1-2 shades darker, but not lighter.
Bright colored socks can sometimes be the accent of an unusual look. So, you can often find stylish men in strict gray or black office suits and socks of completely "wild" colors. These can be bright monochrome models in neon shades, as well as socks with striped prints, polka dots and rhombus patterns, or even with images of cartoon characters, such as Batman or Mickey Mouse. Moreover, this trend of modern fashion is supported not only by bright and eccentric characters of show business, but also by some politicians, composers and even ordinary office workers.
