All About Floating Illuminated Beds
A novelty in the design of the bedroom is a bed floating above the floor with illumination from under it. The interior with such furniture cannot be called ordinary, since the bed visually hangs in the air. The non-standard model was created thanks to original technical solutions that give it the impression of weightlessness.
Peculiarities
The effect of the flight of a double bed in the interior of the bedroom was conceived and developed by designers of modern types of furniture. By them such a rear wall mount was invented, in which it carries the maximum load, and the auxiliary supports are located far from the edges of the horizontal plane bed in such a way that they are not visible from a standing position. The additional impression of floating on a cloud is created by turning on the lower illumination.
When the headboard wall is tightly connected to the wall, a number of unusual advantages arise, among which the following can be distinguished:
- the bed is made with a large margin of safety and you should not be afraid of its fall;
- the base body has connections that will not weaken over time and will not begin to creak;
- Convenience when cleaning, when you can easily wash the floor without bumping into the legs of the furniture.
In addition to practical benefits, the style and beauty of a floating bed with illumination will become a source of pride, a desire to see the surprise of family and friends. Children will also like magic furniture very much, and they will have to think about purchasing the same for the nursery. Such a unique object is suitable for any style, and in every interior will become the center of attention.
But it should be borne in mind that in a small room, this effect will be largely lost due to limited space.
There is also a drawback that may seem important to someone: the bed is attached to the wall once, and it is highly undesirable to carry it.
Forms
Among the models of "flying" beds, there are different shapes. They can be habitually rectangular or square, as well as fashionable round or oval... A sleeping bed with right angles is installed and attached to the wall only with the back of the headboard, but there are also corner options in which there is an additional side connection.
The floating furniture below still has legs, but they are designed in such a way that they represent one support with several rays radiating from it, along which the weight is evenly distributed.
There are beds with several transparent supports, but they are invisible and are located at some distance from the edge. There are also models in which the height of the central legs can be adjusted using a metal mechanism. Rounded shapes at the attachment points have straight bevels for a snug fit to the wall or installation in the corner of the room.
Materials (edit)
In the production of floating furniture, basically the same materials are used as for the production of beds with legs. Wood products, as always, will cost more, but interior items made from MDF or chipboard, due to the high quality of the finishes, they also look quite luxurious and only slightly differ in quality.
There are models made on the basis of a monolithic steel frame... They are famous for the fact that they can withstand a load of up to 500 kg, and on top are finished with MDF boards with various texture patterns. Furniture of this class is more expensive than traditional options, so its upholstery also remains at the elite level. It can be made of natural or artificial leather, dense upholstery fabrics and other expensive materials.
But there are models on sale in which the mattress is simply laid on a wooden base and covered with a blanket.
How to choose?
The most demanded sizes of a sleeping bed are 160x200 cm and 200x200 cm. There are especially spacious samples with parameters 200x220 cm, but such complex furniture should be purchased only in trade organizations purchasing goods from reliable manufacturers. With the initially weak design of the bed, it is almost impossible to strengthen it without prejudice to the basic design idea. Time-tested furniture workshops can create a great custom-made floating modelso that the furniture fully matches the style and dimensions of the bedroom.
For example, for a calm interior in gray tones in the style of minimalism, a black bed covered with dark textiles with white backlighting underneath is perfect. A mustard rug or beige bedspread can become a contrasting color spot.
If the room is decorated in very dark colors, then the bed place, on the contrary, should become the only white object in it. But for a harmonious combination of the entire bedroom interior, the design of the bed should have details of the same dark color.
A room with beige wallpaper and curtains of the same color can accommodate a piece of furniture in a light gray color. A large carpet and a picture in a baguette frame with baroque lamps will perfectly fit here.
When choosing a large hanging bed in the bedroom, you should also pay attention to the build quality and materials. Most likely, the savings in this case will be more expensive and the unreliable design will have to be replaced soon.
How to do it yourself?
Craftsmen, confident in their abilities, can make a floating bed on their own. Before you start working on a drawing, you need to study the nuances of the design and possible design flaws. The master will have to face a complex manufacturing process, which is impossible without experience and acquired skills, since, in addition to wood and its wood-fiber substitutes, he will have to work with metal, thick plywood, and in some cases with tempered glass. But the effort spent will fully pay off by fulfilling the dream of a sleeping place soaring in a cloud of light.
First, you need to choose a specific model and decide what materials it will be made of. Then you should visually fit it into the dimensions of the bedroom, and decide on the size. If the room is small, then the bed must be made of the minimum volume, or choose an original shape so that it looks perfect in the interior.
Pre-selection of the mattress can affect the size of the bed frame.
The next steps will be deciding on the type of central support and calculating its load, otherwise the bed will quickly begin to deform if the legs in the middle are too small.
To make a structure with maximum support on the wall, it is necessary to mount all the parts on a curved piece of steel pipe, which is very firmly connected to the main partition... The frame is assembled from a metal corner by welding or screws. The wooden frame consists of a sturdy lattice in which the boards are placed with an edge in relation to the mattress.
An important element is the back of the headboard, as it simultaneously plays the role of the main supporting and decorative detail. Separately, the material from which it will be made is considered, and the finish, which will help to hide the technical elements of the fasteners.
