Men's T-shirt-alcoholic: what is it and what to wear with?

The definition of clothing like an alcoholic T-shirt sounds rather unattractive, especially for those people who are extremely negative about alcohol. Nevertheless, there is no need to worry - such T-shirts have long had absolutely nothing to do with the wardrobe of drinking marginal people and are much more common in the wardrobes of stylish modern men.

Few people know, but T-shirts, which received such an "unappetizing" name, descended from women's closed swimsuits, which at the beginning of the 20th century were simply cut into two parts - top and bottom, the top has become an alternative to underwear.

They came up with this unpretentious clothing in southern Italy. This region was famous for its poverty, almost total poverty, so residents were forced to treat their clothes sparingly and carefully. The Italian's wardrobe in those years was meager: a few shirts, in which they went to Sunday mass, and a T-shirt, which saved in extreme heat.

In those days, Italians, tired of lack of money, went en masse to America to earn money, and in a foreign land they continued to dress the same way as at home. This is how the “macho” stereotype developed - a typical Italian immigrant wearing such a T-shirt.who is literally bursting with testosterone trying to get his hands on any woman between the ages of 16 and 90.

Over time, the fashion for simple and comfortable T-shirts came to Soviet men, and it was here that she got her name "alcoholic". Everything is explained very simply. In the post-war years, hard workers, having come home after a hard shift at the factory, took off their shirt and remained in a simple T-shirt - in this "outfit" they went out into the yard and "thought for three" with their friends-neighbors.

And here in English, such a T-shirt is called wife beater, which means "beating his wife"... She received this name after shocking events: in 1947 in Detroit, a man was so carried away by beating his wife that he beat her to death. The offender was detained, and photos of the killer in an alcoholic T-shirt were shown on television for a long time, printed in newspapers and magazines. This tragedy caused such a wide resonance that it was discussed several times a day on different TV channels - during this time, the T-shirt among Americans became firmly associated with domestic violence and cruelty.

Of course, nowadays only the name remains of the negative connotation, and the T-shirt itself has slightly changed its appearance - it has noticeably stretched, changed its color and acquired prints. Today, few people consider a man in such a T-shirt "a tired dad, beating up his wife and children." These clothes are present in the wardrobe of every man, and the reason for such a popularity of the model is very simple - it is comfortable.

Alcoholic T-shirts are sewn from the simplest jersey. The T-shirt is distinguished by wide straps and length up to mid-thigh, in the classic version it has a rounded or square neckline. The back of the shirt has a narrowed back and very large slots that reveal the shoulder blades. However, even T-shirts without shoulder blades are also referred to as alcoholics today.

In previous years, the model was carried out exclusively in white, but today it is sewn in a wide variety of shades and is decorated with original ornaments and prints.

The opinions of men about alcoholic T-shirts are divided, this model has both advantages and disadvantages.

Among the advantages are:

• it is a lightweight and comfortable undershirt that is comfortable to wear in hot summer weather;
• such a wardrobe item can become part of the urban casual style;
• T-shirts are sewn from the simplest material, while requiring a minimum of manufacturing costs - the cost of such products is affordable for most of our compatriots, such a T-shirt is not scary to get dirty or ruined.

The disadvantages are:

• the T-shirt fits the male figure too tightly, therefore only representatives of the strong half of humanity with a pumped-up torso look spectacular in such clothes, but thin men or owners of a "beer belly" will look ridiculous and untidy in it;
• for many, the model is steadily associated with underwear, therefore, they usually do not walk the streets in such clothes;
• a tight T-shirt does not look good with any clothes - for example, when combined with loose trousers, the body may look disproportionate.

Both the pros and cons of the "alcoholic" are quite weighty, which is why stylists and designers recommend not wearing it as independent clothing, but combining it with another "top" as part of creating a multi-layered bow. Such things look spectacular, complete with an unbuttoned light shirt, and ripped jeans and light sneakers can complement the image. Brutal accessories, for example, men's bracelets, will help to put stylish accents.

Of course, there is nothing seditious about putting on a T-shirt with jeans and going for a walk around the city in this outfit... However, it is best not to visit public places like this, such as a restaurant, movie theater or shop. And you certainly shouldn't come to work in it, even if there is no strict dress code in the office.
